Turquoise Marilyn

Silkscreen ink on canvas by Andy Warhol, 1964. The turquoise variant of the four Shot Marilyns, depicting Marilyn Monroe's face on a turquoise ground with the characteristic bullet-hole damage later repaired by Warhol. Sold at Sotheby's New York in May 2007 for approximately $80,000,000 to hedge fund manager Steve Cohen, making it one of the highest-priced Warhol works at that time.

Scholarly Significance

Extend the Warhol / Pop Art cluster with the Turquoise Marilyn (1964), the fourth of the Shot Marilyns, sold privately in 2007 to Steve Cohen for an estimated $80,000,000.
