Travelers Among Mountains and Streams

Monumental ink-on-silk hanging scroll by Fan Kuan, c. 1000 CE, depicting towering mountains and a caravan of travelers on a mountain path. Held at the National Palace Museum, Taipei. One of the greatest surviving works of Chinese landscape painting.

  • ·Executed in ink on silk as a hanging scroll; meticulous 'raindrop' brushwork (雨點皴, yǔdiǎn cūn) depicts rocky textures.
  • ·Held at the National Palace Museum, Taipei, as part of the imperial Chinese art collection transported from the Palace Museum in Beijing in 1948–1949.
