MAXXI — Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo
National Museum of 21st Century Arts, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, Rome. Opened 2010; construction 2003-2009. Won the Stirling Prize (2010). The first national museum in Italy devoted to contemporary art and architecture.
Scholarly Significance
MAXXI is the canonical built example of Zaha Hadid's mature Deconstructivist vocabulary: fluid curves, stacked circulation paths, dissolution of conventional spatial boundaries.
