Apple Tree II (c.1916) — Gustav Klimt (Bloch-Bauer collection)

Oil on canvas by Gustav Klimt, c.1916. Square-format landscape depicting an apple tree, characteristic of Klimt's Attersee summer landscapes. Collected by Ferdinand Bloch-Bauer alongside the portrait of his wife Adele. Following the 1938 Anschluss, the Bloch-Bauer collection (including five Klimt paintings and a large decorative arts holding) was seized by the Nazi authorities; Ferdinand fled to Zürich. Apple Tree II was among works held by the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere under the Austrian government until the Maria Altmann arbitration and restitution of 2006.
