Palace Plaque — Warrior with Shield, 16th century — Ethnologisches Museum Berlin (restituted 2022)

Cast brass palace plaque depicting a Benin warrior in full military regalia, holding an eben (ceremonial sword) and a shield, 16th century. Among the approximately 512 Benin objects formally transferred in legal ownership from Germany to Nigeria in July 2022. Physical transfer occurred November 2022 (one of 20 objects in the first tranche). Now in custody of Nigeria's NCMM pending the opening of EMOWAA.
