Palace Plaque — Oba Flanked by Two Chiefs, 16th century — Ethnologisches Museum Berlin

Cast brass palace plaque depicting the Oba of Benin in full royal regalia, flanked by two senior chiefs (ozo-class titleholders), 16th century CE. The hierarchical composition — with the Oba significantly larger than flanking figures — is the canonical Benin court composition encoding royal power. Among the plaques seized in 1897 and now held at the Ethnologisches Museum, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Germany transferred legal ownership of 1,130 Benin objects to Nigeria in 2022; this plaque is among those scheduled for physical transfer.
