Ceremonial Staff (Eben), 17th century — Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, Cambridge
Iron ceremonial staff (eben) with cast brass fittings, 17th century CE, Kingdom of Benin. The eben is a ceremonial sword-like object waved during official ceremonies — chiefs wave the eben as they approach the Oba or participate in royal rituals. The Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge, holds Benin objects from the post-expedition dispersal. Cambridge University announced a provenance review of its Benin collection in 2021.
